The gutter foam filter elements are generally triangular, four-foot lengths of flexible plastic open-cell foam material placed in and extending the full length of a conventional “K” type or similar roof gutter. The foam filter elements may be inserted within the gutter below gutter spikes. The foam material is an open-pore polyether foam of 10–20 cells per square inch which allows rainwater to travel through the filter while excluding leaves.

This research defined and evaluated mechanical properties of prototypes created using a plaster based three-dimensional printing (3DP) system commercialized by Z Corporation. 3DP is one of the fastest growing forms of rapid prototyping. Till date, there is little or no information available on material properties of infiltrants used in 3DP. This research work evaluated and documented some of the useful information for 3DP users by determining the effect of build position, build orientation and infiltration materials on the strength of prototypes.

A quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) employing a commercial glue (“SuperGlue®”) as electrolyte matrix was fabricated. The cyano groups of the cyanoacrylate can form a supramolecular complex with tetrapropylammonium cations. This immobilizes the cations and therefore might lead to a favored anionic charge transport necessary for a good performance of the iodide/triiodide electrolytic conductor. Obtaining energy conversion efficiencies of more than 4% under 100 mW/cm2 of simulated A.M.

US demand for medical and dental adhesives and sealants will rise 7.6 percent annually through 2011, driven by continuing new product development and increasing acceptance in surgical and consumer settings. Opportunities are expected for cyanoacrylate, polyethylene glycol and various plasma and protein types.

This study reports the effect of exposure to liquid carbon dioxide on the mechanical properties of selected medical polymers. The tensile strengths and moduli of fourteen polymers are reported. Materials were exposed to liquid CO2, or CO2 + trace amounts of aqueous H2O2, at 6.5 MPa and ambient temperature. Carbon dioxide uptake, swelling, and distortion were observed for the more amorphous polymers while polymers with higher crystallinity showed little effect from CO2 exposure.

Calix[4]arenes in their 1,3-alternate conformation are particularly convenient scaffolds for the construction of extended tubes. These molecules can act as polytopic cation receptors and have the fascinating property of allowing cation transport |("shuttling") along the tube by passing through the "π-basic tube" formed by the macrocyclic rings of the calixarene units. Although calix tubes can also influence anion transport, this does not appear to involve anion shuttling.

Poly(Styrene-block-IsoButylene-block-Styrene) (‘‘SIBS’’) is a biostable thermoplastic elastomer with physical properties that overlap silicone rubber and polyurethane. Initial data collected with SIBS stent-grafts and coatings on metallic stents demonstrate hemocompatibility, biocompatibility and long-term stability in contact with metal.

Polymeric materials and methods that realize a gel-type intraocular lens that is formed in situ within the lens capsule of the eye. The polymeric material of the intraocular lens includes reactive end groups that effectively bond with lens capsule walls, thus eliminating space between the intraocular lens and the lens capsule walls and significantly reducing the proliferation of lens epithelial cells which can cause unwanted posterior capsule opacification.
