The invention relates to new industrial products of the general formula ##STR1## a process for the manufacture of these products and their application in hydrometallurgy.

Poly[2-(4-vinylphenyl)ethanol]s of known chain legth and of narrow molecular weight distribution have been synthesized by means of anionic living polymerization of the corresponding trimethylsilylated monomer, 2-(4-vinylphenyl)ethoxy-(trimethyl)silane, followed by acid hydrolysis. A block copolymer of poly[2-(4-vinylphenyl)ethanol-b-styrene-b-]2-(4-vinylphenyl)ethanol has also been prepared using living polystyryldianion as the initiator.

A nail lacquer composition comprising a film-forming agent, a compatible solvent, and an auxiliary resin present in an amount sufficient to increase the wear resistance of the composition when dry and selected from alkyl cyanoacrylates, styrene-acrylonitrile-acrylic terpolymers, or mixtures thereof.

The absolute rate constants of propagation kp and of termination kt of ethyl α-cyanoacrylate (ECNA) were determined in bulk at 30°C by means of the rotating sector method under conditions to suppress anionic polymerization; kp = 1 622 1 · mol−1 · s−1 and kt = 4,11 · 108 1 · mol−1 · s−1 for the polymerization in the presence of acetic acid, and kp = 1610 1 · mol−1 · s−1 and kt = 4,04 · 108 l · mol−1 · s−1 for the polymerization in the presence of 1,3-propanesultone. The magnitude of k/kt determined was 6,39 · 10−3 l · mol−1 · s−1.

Stabilizing may be further improved by using the sulfamides in combination with phenolic anti-oxidants, particularly sterically hindered phenols, without reducing the curing rate of the composition.

Die erfindung betrifft eine Cyanoacrylate-Klebstoffzusammensetzung, die eine organische oder eine anorganische Säure mit einem pKa-Wert von etwa -12 bis etwa 7 in Kombination mit einem sauren Gas als Stabilisatoren enthält. Der synergistiches Effekt ergibt eine verbesserte Stabilität und Lagerstabilität, ohne daß die Klebstoffeingenschaften nachteilig beeinflußt werden.

An adhesive composition comprising 2-cyanoacrylate and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of R1-CH2OH,

pentafluorophenol, hexachloroacetone, hexachloroacetone hydrate, chloral and chloral hydrate as cationic-polymerization inhibitor. In the above formulas, R1 is a fluorinated alkyl or aryl group having up to 12 carbon atoms, and R2 and R3 are fluorinated or non-fluorinated alkyl or aryl groups having up to 12 carbon atoms. The above adhesive composition has an excellent storage stability and an improved bonding strength.
